A Tiny Bit About Me
My name is Megan and I have been a lifelong resident of Belleville, Illinois. Belleville is part of the St. Louis metro area perched on the top of the Illinois bluffs overlooking the Mississippi River. Right now I live in town but my heart belongs to the rural countryside that lies just a few miles away.
While I earned a degree in social welfare in what seems a lifetime ago, I think within my soul I have always been an artist. I’ve spent hours totally immersed in doodling, drawing and painting, not to mention whatever crafting craze was popular at the time. I fell in love with quilts as a young child being obsessed with a ragged nine patch made of feedsacks that rested upon my bed.
Besides loving quilts themselves, I love everything that goes into making them. Colorful and vibrant fabrics and threads, paint and inks, pens and pencils, crystals, buttons, lace — oh the list goes on and on! Not to mention all the beautiful things around me — the graceful flowers, intense sunsets, architectural details in the old buildings, patterns in the clouds above me and the birds in my garden are just some of the items that may spark a new quilt or fabric. When viewing a cluster of clouds or an interesting leaf, I am known to say, “Wouldn’t that make a beautiful fabric”?
Quilting and creating art quilts allows me to find beauty in a world that may appear very ugly. My focus in life is to bring beauty and joy not only into my world with my quilts but also into the lives of those around me. I love to create small art quilts for those who need a little lift, who need a “happy place” in their corner of the world. I also find it a privilege to share with other quilters and artists the tools and techniques they may use to spark their own creativity and boost their self-worth. Quilts and art are the bridges that bind people together and bring them such joy. I am so honored to be a part of it.
